The electricity directorate is under the energy, water and sanitation sector within RURA. This technical directorate was created by the regulatory Board decision May 2nd , 2008 to cater for the dynamic and evolving character of the restructuring process that was initiated early 2008 in an attempt to better and timely respond to a number of technical regulatory challenges that are to be faced in the electricity sub-sector. The Electricity Directorate is composed of 3 units which are Power production, transmission and distribution. The 2009 planned activities among others are:

  1. To Conduct all technical regulatory activities of power production, transmission and distribution,
  2. To promote the sustainability, quality and safe services
  3. Monitoring and evaluation,
  4. To promote the utilization of renewable electrical energy resources in rural areas,
  5. To promote energy efficiency and conservation measures.
