RURA mandate in sanitation sector is to ensure effective protection of environment by enforcing wastes disposal and by-products treatment regulations. Targets have been set in Sanitation Sector to be achieved by 2015. There is a need to double efforts at all levels in order to meet the target of 69% of improved sanitation coverage rate by 2015 starting from 42% in 2004. Rwanda projects that by 2020, both rural and urban areas will have sufficient sewage and disposal systems. Each town will have an adequate unit for treating and compressing solid wastes for disposal. Households will have mastered and be practicing measures of hygiene and waste disposal.
